What is Unique About the Hammond B-3 Organ?
The Hammond B-3 organ is the most popular alternative to a much more sophisticated, and expensive pipe organ. It offers a wonderful diverse range of sounds that have been used on thousands of recordings and live performances. An ingenious series of “tone wheels” and adjustable “drawbars” allow an almost infinite set of sound combinations. The Hammond B-3 is considered the fore-runner of the modern synthesizer, and soon became a staple of early rock, jazz and gospel music
The Hammond B-3 organ is usually paired with a speaker system called a “Leslie.” The speakers in the Leslie literally ROTATE, to enhance the vibrato of the Hammond organ. The Leslie Speakers are manufactured by a separate company, the Leslie Corporation.
