Types of Accordion
Accordions fall into two categories: “piano” and “button.” What’s confusing is that there are BUTTONS on the the user-left side on BOTH types of accordion! These are to play the chords and bass notes with the left hand. The MELODY notes are played with the right hand. On a “piano” accordion, the right hand plays the melody notes on a keyboard that resembles a piano. On a “button” accordion, the right hand plays the melody notes on a keyboard that has buttons.
