DJ Hamouris teaches mountain dulcimer in Albany, CA and online. She has played mountain dulcimer since 1979 and loves to show the versatility of the instrument. DJ teaches arranging, at multiple levels, for solo, duet, and ensemble dulcimer playing, including standard, baritone & bass dulcimer. She can teach all styles, including blues, classical, early music, folk (Americana & European), and pop. Aside from her private teaching, she has taught at the following festivals: San Francisco Free Folk Festival, the Northern California Women’s Music Festival, the Elderflower Women Spirit Festival, Women Making Music Camp, Redwood Dulcimer Day, Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas, Adult Camp Winnarainbow, Dulcimer U, and the QuaranTUNES Virtual Dulcimer Festivals. She leads the Berkeley Dulcimer Orchestra, produces the annual Berkeley Dulcimer Gathering. She also served on the staff of Jazz Camp West for 11 years. DJ has produced 6 recordings as well as Indian Summer, a book of her music and original arrangements in mountain dulcimer tablature. DJ earned a BA in music from CSU East Bay, where she created, curated, and produced Musica delle Donne (an annual performance festival of compositions by women). She has studied voice with Eleanor Cohen, Sandy Cressman, Rhiannon, and Raz Kennedy.
